Pre-K and Kindergarten students are eagerly anticipating the 100th day of school! As of now, if we do not have any snow days, the 100th day of school will be on Wednesday, February 11. We are planning a special day full of fun activities for the students together!

We are inviting all families to participate in a very special 100th day project! We would like each child to bring in 100 of something. This can be presented in any way you like - maybe 100 cheerios in a bag, 100 stickers on a poster, or 100 pom-poms on a shirt. We encourage you to get creative - Google and Pinterest have some fantastic ideas! The students will be sharing their 100 day creations with the classes on the 100th day of school. All projects are due in school by Tuesday, February 10. You may send them in earlier if they are finished.

 Penguins!

This week, we learned about penguins! The Pre-K students completed a directed drawing activity to draw their own penguin. Their listening skills and ability to follow directions are improving each time we do this and they are so proud of their creations!

Some of the Pre-K students' favorite penguin facts include:
  • There are 17 different kinds of penguins.
  • Penguins lay eggs.
  • They are birds, but cannot fly.
  • Penguins move by swimming, hopping, or sliding on their bellies.
We also learned that penguin feathers are waterproof! This helps penguins move through the water quickly and dry off fast when they get out. We did a science experiment to test this. Using two paper feathers, we left one uncolored and colored the second with a thick layer of crayon (to represent the penguin's waxy coating on its feathers). We then sprayed both feathers with water. The students observed that the water on the uncolored feather soaked through while the water on the colored feather beaded up - making the feather waterproof!

Happy birthday, Cornelia Connelly!

We celebrated our foundress, Cornelia Connelly's, 217th birthday this week! The entire school gathered together to hear the story of Cornelia's life and then we all sang happy birthday to her. Our 5th grade buddies worked with us to make HCA pride friendship bracelets to remind us of Cornelia's legacy and celebrate how we carry on her mission today!

STEAM

In STEAM class this week, Mrs. Zwilling asked the students to build their names using the Zometools. This was a hard task for the boys and girls and they persevered through the challenge to master their goal!

Make a New Friend Day!

Pre-K students partnered with someone they usually do not play with all the time. This encourages the students to play and work with all the students in the class and branch out and make a new friend.

Parent Visitation Day!

We are looking forward to welcoming you for EC Parent Visitation Day on Wednesday, January 28. This will give you a sneak peek of a typical day in Pre-K. Please RSVP here by January 21.
