Our Class is a Family!
In Pre-K, building a classroom family is essential because it helps young children feel safe, valued, and connected. At this age, children are just beginning to learn how to navigate relationships, share, and work as part of a group. When the classroom is nurtured as a family, children develop trust, kindness, and empathy, which creates a supportive environment for both learning and growth. A strong sense of belonging also encourages confidence, independence, and cooperation, laying the foundation for positive social and emotional skills that will carry them through school and life.
This week, Miss Webb read us the story Our Class Is a Family, a book that helps children see their classroom as more than just a place to learn - it’s a caring community where everyone belongs! The book emphasizes kindness, acceptance, teamwork, and support, reassuring students that just like in a family, they are valued, safe, and loved.
Sitting as a family at the table, we then made class bracelets together, with each bead standing for something that every strong family has: red for kindness, orange for helping, yellow for happiness, green for learning, blue for friendship, purple for respect, and pink for uniqueness.
The Pre-K students were excited to learn that they had a classroom family in addition to their family at home! They promised to practice kindness, help each other, learn, be happy and respectful, and always remember that we are all special!
Montessori Work Time
Montessori Sensorial lessons are an important part of the Pre-K classroom because they help children refine their five senses while building the foundation for later learning. Through hands-on exploration with materials that isolate specific qualities, such as size, color, shape, texture, sound, and smell, children develop focus, concentration, and problem-solving skills. These activities encourage independence as children learn to compare, classify, and order their experiences, strengthening critical thinking and preparing them for abstract concepts in math, language, and science. Sensorial work also nurtures a sense of wonder and curiosity, making learning both joyful and meaningful!
We have spent the past two weeks giving the students lessons on the Sensorial materials. We intentionally did this slowly so the students could see the connections between the lessons - and they have! The students used Color Box 2 to match and sort colors, the Knobbed and Knobless Cylinders to differentiate between height and width and build from largest to smallest, the Sound Cylinders to distinguish and match sounds, and the Geometric Solids to learn cone, cube, cylinder, and sphere and sort pictures of real life items by their shape.

Now the students are able to practice the both the Practical Life and Sensorial lessons independently! Next, we will begin to work on the Language and Math materials!
Blessing of the Pets
On Wednesday we celebrated the feast of St. Francis at our annual Blessing of the Pets. It was wonderful to see so many families join us for this special event.
Miss Webb even brought her dog, Allie, who spent some time with us in Pre-K!
Apples and Our Five Senses
In science class, our Weekly Reader challenged the Pre-K students to use their five senses and real apple slices to explore, describe, and share different ways we can experience apples. They described how apples look, feel, smell, and taste.
But the big question was: can you hear an apple? The class voted and most of us thought you could not; however, we were wrong! You can hear an apple when you take a bite! Listen to that crunch!
Imaginative Play

Show and Tell "Fall" |
Please place all show and tell items in your child's backpack or a separate bag. Please help your child prepare three clues to give their classmates to help them guess which object they chose to share. The schedule for October will be as follows:
