March 8-12, 2021

On Tuesday, we read about leprechauns and the students participated in a directed drawing activity to make their own leprechauns! Between drawing, coloring, and painting, this was an intensive art project for the children. They worked hard to listen to and follow the multi-step directions given and created some beautiful artwork that we displayed in our classroom.

For our science lesson this week, we investigated light and darkness. First, we watched a great video from Sid the Science Kid called "Discovering Darkness." The students discussed how darkness makes them feel and the overwhelming response was "scared." The boys and girls shared with one another the reasons why they felt scared. Then, like Sid, we learned that the only thing that changes in the dark is that there is no light; everything else stays the same, so there is really nothing to be afraid of! We learned that we can use our other senses in the dark to help us discover things around us!

The students paired up and took turns "discovering darkness." One student was blindfolded and tried to find their way around the classroom and discover things around them using their other senses. The other friend was there to guide him/her and ensure that he/she stayed safe.

Next, the friends took turns exploring items in the classroom using only their sense of touch.

The Pre-K students had so much fun discovering darkness with this activity! They will be bringing their blindfolds home today, so be prepared to have some fun this weekend! 😉
