March 17-21, 2025

Pre-K was rocking their green and rainbow for St. Patrick's Day on Monday! We had a great day and even got to do a directed drawing and make our own leprechauns!

Happy 5th birthday to Fiona!

        Lenten Prayer Service

We are so proud of all the Pre-K and Kindergarten students for leading us in our prayer service for the 2nd week of Lent and the Feast of St. Joseph! May we all remember to trust and love like St. Joseph did.

Please sign up here to be a Mystery Reader in Pre-K!

After break, we are excited to bring back one of our favorite EC traditions - Mystery Reader time! We are inviting parents to sign up to come in and share their favorite story with the class. Parents may bring a story from home or you may borrow one from the classroom. We have reserved one spot per child, so both parents may come together if you wish. We try to keep this a surprise for the children so please do not tell them when you are coming in. When you arrive at school, please let Mrs. Richards know that you are there to be a Mystery Reader and she will call down to the classrooms to let us know. We will give the students clues to help them guess who our reader for the day is and then will welcome you into the classroom. Be prepared for the squeals of joy from the children!

We are hopeful that each child will have a special guest come in to read, so if a parent is unable to attend, we welcome another family member or friend to come instead. The sign up links for all the classes are included below. Please click on the link for your child's class to sign up and please let us know if you have any questions. We are excited to share this special time with you!

Please have your child prepare three clues to help their classmates guess what object they chose to share. The upcoming show and tell topics are:
  • Friday, March 28: NO SCHOOL - spring break
  • Friday, April 4: NO SCHOOL - something to do with spring

Uniform Schedule for March 31-April 4

Monday, 3/31- Tuesday, 4/1: regular uniform

Wednesday 4/2 - Friday, 4/4: gym uniforms

Special Guest!

This week, we had a special guest in Pre-K! Captain Dan Lanni (Parent of Juliana '25) of the Upper Darby Police Department came to read to the students. This is a yearly tradition in Pre-K and we all look forward to it! Captain Lanni spoke to the students about being a police officer and the differences between being a police officer in uniform (the ones who catch the bad guys, according to the Pre-K) and being a detective. He then read the class a Dr. Seuss story (one of Detective Lanni's favorites!) The boys and girls loved having him and he promised to come back soon to read some more stories.

Lenten Prayer Service

The Pre-K and Kindergarten students have been working so hard to prepare to lead the school in our Lenten prayer service on Wednesday, March 19, at 8:15 am in the MPR. We hope you are able to join us! Please RSVP here if you plan to attend so we can get an accurate count for seating.

A decorated pink box is currently sitting at the front (Shadeland Ave) entrance. Please feel free to drop off any non-perishable snacks there any time you happen to be at Holy Child.  Show and Tell

This year, show and tell has been a fantastic way for the students to not only practice their public speaking skills, but to gain a better understanding of letter sounds. Learning letter sounds is like learning the basic building blocks of reading and writing, which helps children become strong readers and writers as they grow. Practicing letter names and letter sounds daily will be so beneficial for the children as they prepare for kindergarten in the fall.

Check out all the things the children shared for the /d/ sound!
