 Pumpkin Patch

On Monday, the early childhood students got to pick a pumpkin from our very own pumpkin patch!

Jack-o-Lantern Directed Drawing

The students worked hard to draw their very own pumpkins and turn them into jack-o-lanterns!

Roll, Count, Cover

We introduced a new game to the students this week - "Roll, Count, Cover." To play, the children rolled the dice and counted the number on the top. They then tried to find the matching piece of candy corn that had the same number of dots and covered it with a counter. This was great practice using one-to-one correspondence when counting! Have fun playing at home!

Halloween Fine Motor Activity

Mrs. Mossor sent us a link to a great fine motor activity for Halloween - "Halloween Hands Warm Up!" You can view the activity here and have your child practice at home! The boys and girls had to mimic the hand movements on the screen and then guess who was hiding behind the door. Click here to see the Pre-K students in action!

Stay tuned to next week's blog for pictures from our Mission Party!

 Halloween

We have been busy decorating our classroom for Halloween! Miss Webb helped the students make monsters out of a variety of shapes. The children were able to select shapes to make the monster's body, arms, legs, ears/horns, and mouth. Look at their amazing creations!

Fall

We took some time on Wednesday afternoon to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and took a walk around the neighborhood with our friends in Nursery 3 and Kindergarten. The Pre-K students partnered up and enjoyed talking and walking with their friends.

Mission Party Drive for the Troops

Pre-K and Kindergarten are hosting a drive to collect items to support our troops stationed abroad. We worked together on Thursday to prepare a video (click here to watch) to send out in Happenings and to be played on the morning announcements. We also created some flyers to hang around the school.

We are looking to collect the following items:
  • Individually wrapped snacks: beef jerky, protein bars, trail mix, candy bars
  • Chef Boyardee or cup of soups (the kind that have a peel top)
  • Travel size toiletries (toothpaste, shampoo, sun lotion, etc.)
Donations can be sent into school through the Mission Party on Friday, October 29, 2021.  We are also accepting monetary donations for HIAS Pennsylvania, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Afghan refugee families.  We ask that each family support these efforts by contributing $5.00 or items for the collection.

Thank you in advance for your help and generosity!

Some Reminders

  • There will be no show and tell next week.
  • On Friday, October 29, we will have our annual HCA Mission Party. Students may come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes and sneakers. Please make sure costumes do not reflect an evil or frightful tone! We are planning a day filled with games and Halloween fun for the students. Dismissal will be at 12:00 noon that day and there will be no HCA Plus. Please see the emails and Happenings for more details.
  • November is All Religions month, when we celebrate the central themes of love and goodness that all religions share. We plan to have a panel of people from different faiths briefly share what is special about their religion to them and a favorite celebration or practice that they enjoy about their religion. If you or someone you know would like to be part of this in any way, please contact Julie Myers at jmyers@holychildacademy.com.

 Founders Day

This week, we celebrated the founding of the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus, the sisters who started the Holy Child schools, by Cornelia Connelly, 175 years ago. We had a school-wide prayer service on Wednesday where we commemorated Founders Day and commissioned all the classes as servant leaders and announced our service partners for the year.

During Community Time on Thursday, we continued our Founders Day celebration. On Founders Day, Cornelia Connelly would allow the older children in school to guide the younger students in a variety of activities. We are so grateful to the middle school students and teachers for a planning such a wonderful day for all of us!
