February 24-28, 2020

Thank you for all your help with our mail unit!

Mail time has easily become our favorite part of the day! The boys and girls get so excited when the flag is up on our mailbox and are eager to see who and where the latest piece of mail is from. So far, we have received mail from 12 states and 6 different countries! Please continue to tell your friends and family to keep writing!

Random Acts of Kindness

Last week, we celebrated Random Acts of Kindness week. All the teachers randomly selected a class to share an act of kindness with. To our surprise, Mrs. DeLuca and the 5th grade chose our class and we picked theirs! The 5th graders read us Kindness Makes the World Go Round and helped us make crafts telling how we can be kind. We made them a card and invited them to come outside with us to draw with chalk. We drew pictures and our 5th grade friends helped us write kind words all over the parking lot. We all had a wonderful time spreading kindness at HCA!

Black History Month

This week, we celebrated Black History Month with a wonderful celebration! We listened to music by famous black Americans, learned about several prominent figures in history and colored pictures of them, and played "Red Light, Green Light" after learning about Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the traffic light.

Looking ahead:
  • Show and tell will be on Tuesday, March 3. The topic will be something that begins with /d/.
  • Our prayer service is on Wednesday, March 4, at 8:15 am in the MPR. We hope to see you there!
  • Re-enrollment forms are due on Friday, March 6.
  • Tickets for Frozen Jr., coming to HCA on March 13-14, are on sale! Get your tickets now to guarantee a good seat. Click here for more information!

Have a great weekend! Hope to see you at the auction!

February 17-21, 2020

We celebrated the 100th day of school this week!

We turned ourselves into 100 year olds!

We did 100 exercises to warm ourselves up for the day!

We started by running in place for 100 seconds and then did 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats, 10 push ups, 10 lunges, 10 toe touches, 10 frog jumps, 10 arm circles, 10 criss-cross jumps, 10 high knees, and, finally, 10 of our favorite dance moves. WHEW!

We are officially 100 days smarter!

The boys and girls colored shapes using a key and then graphed the totals to determine which shape had the most and which shape had the least.

We completed a STEAM challenge to build towers out of cups!

First, the students worked in small groups to build 4 towers out of 25 cups. Then, they worked together as a class to build 1 tower out of 100 cups. They learned that 4 groups of 25 make 100!

All day long we searched for 100 Hershey's kisses that were hidden in the classroom.

As we found them, we had to match the numbers on the bottom of the kisses to a hundred chart. It was a challenging task, but we did it!

We even ate 100 snacks at snack time!

The students counted out 100 combinations of Cheerios, goldfish, and fruit snacks and placed them on their 100 chart. Delicious!

We ended our celebration with a 100th day dance party - because it was the "best day ever in Pre-K!"

It was a wonderful day celebrating a big milestone in our Pre-K year!

Looking ahead:
  • Show and tell on Monday, February 24 and will be something that begins with /l/.
  • The countdown is on for the HCA Auction on February 29! Hope to see you there!
  • We are getting excited for our prayer service on Wednesday, March 4, at 8:15 am in the MPR. Keep practicing those lines at home!

February 10-14, 2020

What a busy week we had in school!

Have you heard? We have pen-pals! We are exchanging letters with a Pre-K class from Plano, Texas! We received our first letter from them and already responded. The boys and girls are so excited about our mail unit - and we need your help! Since we are already learning about maps and geography, we want to tie these two concepts together to see how many places from around the world that we can receive mail from. Tell your family and friends that live both near and far to write to us so we can add a pin to our map! Please send all postcards, letters, and cards to:

Mrs. Barrera's Pre-K Class
Holy Child Academy
475 Shadeland Avenue
Drexel Hill, PA 19026

Our mailbox is ready and the children can't wait to see when our next piece of mail will arrive! Thanks in advance for your help! This unit will run through March 20.

The Pre-K students did an amazing job with their items for show and tell this week. How many things that begin with /h/ do you see?

While we know it's not because of the earth's gravitational pull or because of the vernal equinox, it's still pretty cool to see a broom stand up all by itself!

We had tons of fun celebrating Valentine's Day with our school families and sharing soft pretzels for snack. Thank you for all the treats you sent in for the students and the teachers!

Looking ahead:
  • There will be no show and tell next week. Our next show and tell will be on Monday, February 24 and the topic will be something that starts with /l/.
  • Get your tickets for the HCA Auction on Saturday, February 29!  We are counting down the days until this fun night celebrating our community. More information can be found here.
  • Re-enrollment forms for the 2020-2021 school year are due March 6.

Have a great weekend!
