Painting Sea Creatures
With the amazing sea creatures that his family shared with us, Wolf asked if we could all paint them before we put them in the water side of the Nature Space. The Pre-K students were so creative coloring them in and can hardly wait to share them with the other EC students!
Visit from Holy Child Rye
On Monday, the 9th grade students from Holy Child Rye (New York) came to spend some time picnicking and playing with the EC students. Pre-K didn't ever want them to leave!
Mail Update!
We have received mail from 19 states, 11 countries, and 5 continents! A huge thank you to you, your families, and your friends for all your support! When sending mail to the school, please use the following address:
HCA Pre-K
475 Shadeland Avenue
Drexel Hill, PA 19026
In addition to receiving mail, the students are working hard to complete their own world maps! It has become the favorite lesson during work time. Louis was the first to complete his map this week and everyone was so excited for him!

Life Cycle of a Chick
This week, we were able to start candling our eggs. We were able to remove the chicks from the incubator and shine a special flash light on it to see what is inside. The pictures don't do it justice - it's incredible! As the week went on, the students were able to see the chick's eyes, legs, body, and could even watch it move. So cool!
Twins!
The boys and girls wondered if any of the eggs might have twins inside? While we don't think that will happen, Pre-K and Kindergarten are lucky to have three sets of twins between the two classes! Can you tell them apart?
Happy 5th birthday to Khadijah!
Reminders:
Now that the spring weather is headed our way, please send in a seasonal change of clothes (including underwear) for your child. We will return the other clothing once this comes in.
In April, we will begin reviewing the vowel sounds. These are often trickier for children to master so we save them for the end when they have had more practice. When sending in items for the vowel show and tells, please make sure the object you choose has the short vowel sound. For example, /a/ apple, /e/ egg, /i/ igloo, /o/ octopus, /u/ umbrella.
When teaching letter sounds, it is so important to isolate the sound by itself when children are first learning. For show and tell purposes, we want to avoid objects with long vowel sounds (for example, angel, ice cream, or ukelele) or words with vowel diagraphs (for example, airplane or eagle).
- Wednesday, May 6: something that begins with the /u/ sound
- Wednesday, May 13: something that starts with the first sound of your child's name
- Wednesday, May 20: something to do with summer (last show and tell of the year!)
This week we welcomed An's parents, Louis' mom, Shiv's parents, and Aline and Rogan's parents.
