March 15-19, 2021

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We had SO much fun learning about leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day! We read great stories about how silly leprechauns are, how they are always searching for gold at the end of rainbows, and how they tend to make a mess in their search.

They boys and girls were nervous that the leprechauns were going to try to steal the "gold" that was part of a Practical Life work out on a shelf. Using the Magna-Tiles, they worked together to build a box to protect the gold as well as a trap to try to catch the leprechaun!

The Pre-K students were so excited about the trap they made together, I challenged them to design their own leprechaun trap. They came up with so many creative ideas!

"I will trick the leprechaun with fake gold
and then trap him!" - Ava

"I will trap my leprechaun in a cave."
- Anthony

"I will trap the leprechaun with clay and
Magna-Tiles." - Alexandra

"The toy chicken will chase the leprechaun
and I will catch him." - Lily

"The leprechaun is going to bounce on the
trampoline and fall into the lava." - Connor

"The leprechaun will go into the castle, get
bopped on the head, and get delivered to
a cage." - Charlie

"I walked the leprechaun in and put him
in jail." - Luke

"The leprechaun will slip in the oil, fall
into the Magna-Tiles, and get trapped."
- Greyson

Mrs. Devenney invited us to join our friends in Nursery 3 to set up a leprechaun trap in the hallway under our rainbow.

Then, we went up to recess as usual and had a great time dancing to some Irish music with our friends in Kindergarten. Click the link to see the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYF8jZElD3A.

When we came back downstairs to our hallway, we were shocked to discover that the leprechaun had come looking for gold - and oh, what a mess he made! Click the link to see the video: https://youtu.be/1kKvnHOo1Pk.

The leprechaun even caught Miss Webb and did a little jig on Mr. Hartsock's head!

The boys and girls had SO much fun (and so did all the teachers)! It was such a great day filled with so much joy!

Spirit Week continues next week!  Here are the themes:

  • Monday, March 22: Pajama Day Children should wear pajamas and sneakers.
  • Tuesday, March 23: Twin/Triplet Day In EC, students have been learning about warm and cool colors in art classes. Since twin/triplet day is a hard concept for this age, we are asking that all the girls wear warm colors (red, orange, or yellow) and all the boys wear cool colors (green, blue, or purple).
  • Wednesday, March 24: Sweats Day Children should wear sweat pants/shirts. Think comfy!
  • Thursday, March 25: Throwback Thursday/Decades Day Children can come dressed in an outfit of your choice from a different decade.

Important reminders:
  • Conferences are next Thursday afternoon and Friday morning (3/25 & 3/26). The Zoom links will be emailed home next week. Please remember that conferences will last approximately 15 minutes. Please be on time and be mindful of those families who are scheduled after you.
